I don't know if this is of any help, but you can sync external MIDI to VM standalone using Cherry Audio's Sync to MIDI Clock module. *Im using a Korg SQ-1 to do some midi to cv for eurorack and I want to sync the device to the generator.
I only use the standalone version of VM for recording the HW mostly, so doing thorough the DAW is not going to help.

Hi, wondering if there's a reason that there's no 'host' midi to cv converter in the plugin version?

I couldn't get the VST3 to work as an effect in X3 either. The VST2.4 works as expected though.

FYI: I have brought up the Voltage Modular issue in the Reason Beta forum...
