Greetings. Well, the journey continues. I got "Sampler II" because of the possibilities of sampling into itself.
This was the line of the site that got me: "With Sampler II, it’s possible to build generative patches that sample and loop themselves as part of the patch, which can lead to some mind-blowing possibilities."
As I total beginner--I am lost on how to move forward with this. My goal is to do it, and then make a youtube video to help beginners like me understand the possibilities here. I am a sound designer and would love to make something specifically for this application in Sampler II.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. ie: how do I patch this, and how can I oscillate this. I understand how to patch out back to in, but not out to something to tweak and then back to in.
Thank you!

Re: Sampler 2-outputs into inputs
JDubbz,
Love your music. Very cool.
I'd say this is new territory. I think we need you to experiment with different possibilities here. When would you record a new sample? How long would the sample be? How will it be used? One simple start is to take an existing preset, add the Sampler II and set up the keyboard gate to trigger recording...Then patch some audio in and it will loop whatever you played. Maybe that's not too interesting...but it might get some creative juices flowing. Maybe add in a Step Sequencer and trigger a sequence based with the Sampler II. Please experiment and post your results. We would love to see what you can do.
Thanks!

Right on, CG. Thanks for the kind words about the music. We had an email a few weeks back when I first got your software. I had told you I wanted to get into generative and you told me about the Sampler II that was being released that day. Stoked to meet you guys!Cherry Garcia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 7:35 pm JDubbz,

I can't think it's new territory, because my inspiration was from your text about the module (ie: "With Sampler II, it’s possible to build generative patches that sample and loop themselves as part of the patch, which can lead to some mind-blowing possibilities.")
So, that said, I wasn't thinking about a keyboard note press (unless that's the way to do it). I was picturing it as: load sample, set to loop, then put outputs to inputs, and re-record? But my interest was in going out of the sampler before returning to the inputs and modulating, oscillating, sequencing, etc and not having any idea how to patch that.

(= Touche. I have asked one of our more experienced modular designers to pipe in here. I know we are having presets made with the Sampler II and other modules - but I am not sure when those will be done. I am sure there are others on the forum that would have some great ideas, as well.

Rad. Thanks, man. I'll stay tuned. Stoked to be learning modular on your platform!Cherry Garcia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 8:16 pm (= Touche. I have made a demo patch you can try to tweak to learn: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=283

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I will get into this tonight when I can really focus (after the kids are in bed LOL).JX3D wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 9:36 pmI have made a demo patch you can try to tweak to learn: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=283
BTW, your stuff on soundcloud is KILLER.

Re: Sampler 2-outputs into inputs
You're welcome. I can make a simpler patch if needed. Well I probably will make more patches with the Sampler 2 module. Its like a tweakable delay, very good. Reminds me of my first digital hardware sampler/delay pedal (BOSS DSD-2). I have missed that trigger function for years in VSTs, and now its here in VM. Great.
Thanks for your kind words on my music/noise on soundcloud - yours are great too

Re: Sampler 2-outputs into inputs
Hey, JXD. Ok, I gave it a good test drive last night. Really cool....but, yes, maybe a simpler version would be good. It seemed like everything I did broke it. LOL.JX3D wrote: ↑Wed Feb 06, 2019 10:08 pm You're welcome. I can make a simpler patch if needed. Well I probably will make more patches with the Sampler 2 module. Honestly, I'm so over my head here... I would load a sample, set it to drone so it would loop and it was doing pretty much what I had explained, but as I struggled to remove the saw wave (?) tone that was also playing (didn't need that) I broke the chain for other stuff I must have needed to just have the sampler doing its thing.
Is there a simple way to just have the sampler going through some oscillation and then back into itself?

Re: Sampler 2-outputs into inputs
Well when doing it simple I get some problems too. Each time I sample the output, the new sample is an octave higher.
But check the Simple Sampler 2 patch and see if that helps you.
Here are all the patches I have shared, including the Simple Sampler patch:
