For example, the preset called Faerie Shimmer.
I am wondering what the purpose is of having a cable going from Env1 to the amp. Removing that cable, it seems like I can still get the exact same sound by adjusting the ENV2 release and decay. Is there a subtle difference in sound I'm not noticing, or some other reason for the patch cable?
Why do some factory presets patch Env1 Out to VCA Amt?
Re: Why do some factory presets patch Env1 Out to VCA Amt?
Oh gosh, is it as simple as, "to free up Env2 for something other than the amp"?
Re: Why do some factory presets patch Env1 Out to VCA Amt?
That would be my first thought.
However, I can't see Env2 being used for any purpose in the Fairy Shimmer patch - even the normalled filter cutoff EG2 amounts are set to zero. Perhaps the programmer just prefers to use an AR-type envelope when creating percussive patches. As you stated in your OP, you have to set decay and release to be the same amount when using Env1.
