Oh and as well as the six oscillators having Plaits functionality sneakily hiding in their Twist mode, I think their String mode is something similar to Rings.
If that's not enough for you then in the FX section something called Nimbus seems to actually be a port of Clouds.
Plaits for VM?
Re: Plaits for VM?
I'm a big fan of Surge, although I'd never considered routing it through to VM at the more functional level. I do route audio through VM, but I haven't explored the Plug-in Host properly. Sometimes, the mind can be over-boggled at the possibilities that are before usColinP wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 8:23 am Oh and as well as the six oscillators having Plaits functionality sneakily hiding in their Twist mode, I think their String mode is something similar to Rings.

Re: Plaits for VM?
The great thing about the Plug-in Host is the modular access it gives you to plugin parameters. Twelve CV inputs to virtually any plugin, VST2, VST3 or AU.SpaceDog wrote: ↑Fri Oct 07, 2022 10:33 am

Re: Plaits for VM?
It is great to see others using VST Instruments within VM. For quite a while I have been wanting a host that has immediate access to more than 12 parameters as well as a more convenient method for selecting from the sometimes extremely long list of parameters available.
I did not bring up any feature requests (including requests for third-party module developers) because I didn't see others talking about using synths within the as sound sources to be manipulated within VM (and in turn within DAWS).
For me, VM presets that host both and control Instruments and FX have an abundance of uses, including as convenient workflow methods within DAWs and workarounds for issues in VSTs.
Thanks for mentioning Surge! I found my VM preset and realized it used an older (i.e., outdated) version of Surge. (I have now updated preset to use the current version of Surge in my VM preset.
Thanks for taking this in that direction even though it is a bit off-topic.

Re: Plaits for VM?
Clarification: It is possible to map CCs to Plug-in Controls if the VST has MIDI Learn and then to use the CV to MIDI module (connected to VM's plug-in host) to control more than 12 parameters, but this requires jumping around, more set up time, etc.
Re: Plaits for VM?
Ahhh, now this I have done. I've set up some interesting modulation sources within VM, mapped them to various CCs and fired them out to control an external (to VM) VST. I've also used various sequencers to control an external drum synth, which works well for my purposes.
As an aside, I've also passed MIDI into VM, manipulated it, and then sent it back out again. It was whilst playing with the Miniverse VST that I discovered how I could change the note priority (and most importantly, why, as I didn't want to).
Re: Plaits for VM?
This also interests me and I have a goal to explore it more. (Probably should be its own thread--something like "VM as a MIDI Processor Tool.") Recently, I have done a couple of small, basic MIDI processing tests to look for solutions to issues I have seen others write about in non-CA forums (i.e., issues with other manufacturers' VSTs).
Re: Plaits for VM?
Nice discussion. I have Cardinal and VCV Rack installed by now to be honest and use it when I want to go a bit more in that direction. For Voltage Modular, I got the WF-Osc https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules/wf-osc and added some waveforms https://www.adventurekid.se/akrt/waveforms/to it. I was looking to add some other kind of digital waveforms to Voltage Modular instead of Saw, Square, etc.. Of course you can do a lot with it with the right techniques but this way I find it more comfortable. The topic of plug-in host is interesting and certainly a good way to do many things.
Re: Plaits for VM?
Nice! AKWF is a classic collection, an amazing compilation. I haven't done anything with it inside VM. I don't have the Gargoyle bundle, but I have other modules that can load and/or manipulate wav files. I will have to see where I tucked away AKWF. You sparked some ideas to try out.
