Maybe off topic, but ...

Looking back, wouldn't it be better to get the U-Phoria UMC404HD working with VM standalone. Then run your mic through that? Or am I talking nonsense?

That absolutely makes sense. I've used another mic directly on the U-Phoria but also no sound...
