Browser Interference problem once and for all

Post by huggermugger »

Dear Cherry,

Please, please fix the Browser in VM so it doesn't keep resetting to the top while it's Retrieving User Info and Getting My Stuff and Retrieving the Catalog and Downloading Images and and and. It is truly a pain in the butt.

with love,
Steve

I don't consider this as a suggestion. I made a bug report 4 month ago and did debug sessions with CA about this. It is certainly a bug that if the more modules you have (the more money you invested) the slower the license-checking gets. Obviously the development on this was done with some little amount of modules.
I gave up on this. And on VM. Not a little thing changed on this since 4 month.
But the good thing is that it got me to look into VCV again. A test with 1900 modules in VCV showed no problems. There is a difference. Most of them are free ( but not cheap in quality) and don't have to be checked for a license. When I first checked VCV years ago it was crashing very often. Therefore I got into VM. Now it is very stable.
The browser in VCV is excellent. I have more fun and find me doing more than with VM. Because I can start immediately on startup.
I am sorry. I was big fan of VM and CA. But no change and no roadmap on VM I consider a letdown on customer and developers and makes it look like the 5th wheel on the wagon considering all the time that gets invested in more vintage synth clones.
I don't expect new features, even if there are a lot of request, but at least bugs should be fixed.

Hi,

Let me rephrase that. I probably shouldn't have written "suggestion." Tech. support had an existing bug report filed on this issue, and I added a link to this topic to update that report.

It would appear to only require a trivial mod to implement this. Hopefully, CA are going to release a minor update to VM in the near future that addresses this and some other low-hanging fruit issues.

In the meantime a workaround might be to disconnect from the internet for a few minutes when launching VM. In my Windows 10 setup this requires just two clicks to disconnect and two to re-connect. When doing any recording or pushing VM to the limit I generally disconnect anyway as all kinds
of unexpected overheads can arise without warning when online.
