Vita is now available

Post by borkman »

I am happy to release my second module - Vita. It was envisioned as a sequencer based on the Game of Life by John Conway. As it evolved, it also turned into a switch. So now it's both.

There is a two week demo period if you'd like to give it a try. Additionally, to celebrate the release the price will be 50% off for at least a week.

If you have any issues, questions, or suggestions, please let me know. Thank you!

I like using the Game of Life idea, but I do not see a clock input.

According to the User Guide:

"Iterating through generations

The NEXT trigger and button iterate through generations, reflecting the generational state in both the output jacks and the
display. Some patterns repeat indefinitely. Some patterns die quickly. Experiment. Or look up classic patterns. Or both!
The edges wrap around, so things like the classic glider pattern will move around forever."

Thank you for responding. It would be nice to be able to modulate the tempo, but I respect your vision.

This may be a confusion in terminology. When the next generation occurs is totally under your control. Each time a pulse/trigger is received at the Next jack (or the Next button is pushed), a new generation evolves. To set the tempo of evolution, you could use a square wave lfo set to whatever frequency you like. To modulate the tempo, modulate the frequency of the lfo. Is this what you were trying to do, or I am misunderstanding?

Thank you. I am trying it out. I see what you are doing and how a clock input would not matter. It is a different implementation of the Game of Life from what I am used to, but now I understand how it works.

The introductory sale on Vita that was set for "at least a week" will extend through end of day Thursday 7/20 CDT. Thank you to everyone who gave it a try! My next module will hopefully be ready by then or shortly thereafter.

I purchased Vita as I'm a sucker for sequencers and the GoL is a classic algorithm. What I'd like to see is a EoL (End of Life) trigger jack so that when there is no more 'Life' of the board (e.g. 'cells') a trigger signal would be sent. Ideally, there would be an input jack for the 'Random' option so that I could create a new random starting point when the old one ended.
... OR...
Have preset cell conditions and the EoL signal could activate one of those memories.

Thank you for your ideas! I have noted them for a future update.

1. Send a trigger after the last cell dies
2. Ability to reset pattern to something other than the single stored pattern, either random or other stored pattern(s)
