ways to make Ring mod

Post by Soundspace73 »

Hi everyone!
if to make the am synthesis it is enough to put a modulation in the audio band on the volume, how to do the ring mod?
i had previously seen a method with the formula module but i don't remember exactly

There are a number of ring mod modules available in VM, including one from CA. Gargoyle might have the fanciest one currently. However, if what you're wanting to do is amplitude modulation, as you seemed to indicate, you don't need a ring mod; you can do it with any VCA, although you probably want to do something about aliasing. R-Ware has a nice module for oversampling, in that case.

In case it's not obvious from the image, the triangle out of Oscillator 2 is going to the ENV IN on Simple Amplifier AND to Input A of the Oscilloscope.

I think you might be referring to this thread:

Ring Modulator is not ring modulating

I didn't write well however I was referring to the ring mod no to the am.
for the am, a modulation in the audio band on the amplifier is enough, but how can the aliasing issue be addressed?
if you could be more specific also about the r ware module

Reid was talking about the R_Oversamplers bundle.

The highest frequency component from a linear ring modulator will be the sum of the highest frequency components of the two input signals. If that sum frequency exceeds the Nyquist frequency of VM (24 kHz), you will get alias frequencies reflected back down into the audio range.

If you found aliasing to be a problem, R_Ware's Oversampler would eliminate this effect by applying x2 oversampling. This involves using two ring modulators working in parallel to process signals at a virtual sampling rate of 96 kHz (and a virtual Nyquist frequency of 48 kHz).

Well, while working on this very interesting proposal, I discovered that there are birds in the patch. Could you check this patch:
Two oscillators, the first Range Low, the second Range 32', with the Pulse Width around 75%

A source DC module injecting
4.2 Volts in the Pitch CV of the two oscillators, and
2.53 Volts in the Pitch CV of the second oscillator

A SIMple Amplifier receiving the triangular wave from the first oscillator in the Audio-In and the Pulse in the Env-In

A Multi-Oscilloscope receiving the output of the Simple Amplifier, the Scale (Zoom level) being set to 75% and the switch to High.

Do you also see birds flying?

next version, with sound (crickets)

An LFO to vary the way it flies,
Two delays and a Panner plus the stereo-mixer for stereophonic effect,
a High-pass filter to make it look a little better like crickets

This visual is so strange ! and it only works with the Zoom factor at a certain value...

Anyway... have fun
