Hello! 70s PROG

Post by ProgMan71 »

Hi there,

I'm new here and just joined the forum.

Been a C.A. customer for a year or two now. Love their products.

Recently bought the Miniverse and am really enjoying finding my way around it.

I am a big fan of Prog and in particular I like the spacey sounds of Steve Hillage/Miquette Giraudy. I also love Berlin School synth music too.

so, I am trying to recreate the swirling, phasing synth sounds from the " Activation Meditation" by Steve Hillage (from his Green album) I was wondering if any of you know how this is created? I'm pretty sure it was done originally on a Mini Moog. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Good to be here. ProgMan71

Miquette Giraudy used an ARP 2600 with the ARP Sequencer heavily during the '70s. I think this combination is what is being used on the track (as well as throughout Rainbow Dome Musick). Definitely worth trying out a demo of the CA2600 to see if it fits the bill.

Just had a listen to the track and it seems to me that the synth technique is a rip of Pete Townshend's "Won't Get Fooled Again" intro just with a more gentle envelope on the gating. The 2600 processing an organ will do it just fine. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5voNyRmvXs

Nice video clip. Looks to me like a "Putney" (VCS 3) in the image at the point where PT is talking about the earlier instrument. https://www.synthhistory.com/post/three ... -townshend
