Custom Scene Manager

Post by ColinP »

This continues my long-running blog on the development of Adroit Custom.

As I mentioned in the post viewtopic.php?t=3256 I wanted to simplify the Custom Control prototype, so I've moved the transport functions into another module called Custom Transport and have dropped the A, B, AB, AABA pattern system. The latter was neat for live performance use but added too much complexity.

So now Custom Control no longer exists. Instead a very similar module called Custom Scene Manager steps up...

This distills the essence of Scene Morphing after countless design iterations going back to spring 2023.

It's going into beta testing now and will hopefully be released sometime in November.

This has been a very challenging project and has taken far longer than I anticipated. Therefore I've decided to reward the patience of early adopters of Adroit Custom by adding Custom Scene Manager to the existing bundle free of charge once it gets through beta testing and has been approved by CA.

Apart from continuing work on Custom Transport and fixing any bugs that show up in testing, my main focus now is on documenting Custom Scene Manager and putting together some demonstration presets.

The current draft documentation on Custom Scene Manager is available here...

Note this is likely to change virtually every day for some time to come.

If you are new to Adroit Custom then the main documentation starts here...

The beta testing of Custom Scene Manager seems to be going well and the documentation is taking shape so we are still on schedule for a release before the end of November.

I'm hoping to have a few nice demo presets finished by then too.

I'm still working on Custom Transport but it ought to go into beta sometime next week and will hopefully be published alongside Custom Scene Manager. Here's what the current prototype looks like (default dark look)...

Its V/BAR OUT will drive Custom Scene Manager's V/BAR IN but can also be fed to time splitters and sequencers in LSSP.

Custom Transport integrates nicely with the rest of Adroit Custom (you can for instance add invisibly linked Play and Stop buttons to Custom Panel modules using the Add special button menu option) but you can also use Custom Transport as a standalone transport independently of the Adroit Custom system. The four configurable clock outputs can be used to drive conventional sequencers at various rates.

The space in the bottom-left might end up with MIDI sync I/O sockets.
