Patch making Live and Bitwig freeze / crash with "serious error"

Post by ksniod »

I get no answer from Greg (from CA support) since he asked me to send him the file nearly 2 weeks ago, so I'll try here.
Hopefully someone will be brave enough to try and find what the problem is.

A patch i made makes Live crash with a special error window (not the usual Live crash) indicating a "serious error", and the same patch makes Bitwig instantly freeze (even though it sandboxes plugins), when playing the song. (Sometimes Live "only" freezes).
Not happening in Reason, where everything is ok, nor in Logic (AU), nor in the standalone.
Live and Bitwig are up-to-date and I use up-to-date VM Nucleus (VST2 version) with this custom patch.

Right, now you said it's a very simple patch (which it is), could you please tell me if you found any problem with it?
I can tell you I get the same troubles each time I try to play it

Hi,

Did you try the suggestion I made?

Sorry Greg but there’s only « That's a very simple preset. Do any other presets cause this problem? » in your mail - maybe another message got lost (not in my spam though) - so no suggestion per se?
Anyway no it’s the only problem I got for now with VM, which is pretty stable and performs well.
I guess by reading your answer that you didn’t get the same troubles as me with it?

Hi,

Here's something to try: what happens if you don't plug the oscillators into their own frequency modulators?

I tried both in Live and Bitwig and you're right, no problem then. As soon as I plug one oscillator into its own frequency modulator the problem occurs.
Still all ok in Reason (I know there has been some job done to make VM work in Reason, maybe that fixed that in advance? :D)

Hi,

No, the Reason thing is unrelated. Wow, that's interesting, I'll pass this along.

Hi,

What version of Bitwig are you using?

I've been trying this preset with VM 1.3.16 in Bitwig 3.1.3 and it works normally for me.
I toggled multi-cpu and openGL as well, which made no difference.
