This sequencer is the bomb.

In my opinion, the only rival is the Max for Live "Modular Sequencer" by Sound Manufacture (Tim Charlemagne).
M4L, so not a VM module, you must use Ableton live and VM as VST, but it's worth it.
It is a very innovative design and you can do some grooves somehow.

But still, Vari Step Sequencer is awesome.
I just wish it could do some basic groove, but it's already so big !

Yeah, I said that I won't add "micro-timing thing" to Vari-step.
But I started to think it can be good to add this feature to Vari-step because I'm still busy to start a new module. It's much faster way to realize a feature. :)

I'm surprised that there're so many types of sequencer in the world. :D

That would be great ! お願い致します!! m(_ _)m

This is the corner where one can make a "groove" on the Modular Sequencer : two beats with 16th notes.

Haha, larger number itself can be a cause of another view. :)

Yet, I don't fully understand the function of the "Modular Sequencer". Its manual doesn't tell about this function.
Anyway I will try as I can do on Vari-step.

Yes, but it's a lot though ! I swear it's not just me ! :D ....

Yes, the M4L device "Modular Sequencer" has a very unclear manual about the swing/groove function.
I had to write to Tim Charlemagne about it.

Here is what he told me, it makes sense to me and it works :

"So, to answer your questions, yes there was a bug in the swing section. Attached I send you an new Version of Modular Sequencer, which clears this problem hopefully. In the Screenshot you see the delay times for every row. This appears when you have the mouse over the swing amount slider.
So, every of the four rows has different delay times. The first line isn’t delayed.
That means if we take the example of the screenshot. the first 1/16 note isn’t delayed, the 2nd is delayed 22.8 ms the 3rd 45.6ms etc. it’s like a loop of eight 1/16 notes. And the ms are depending on the master tempo of live. That means, if you change the master tempo the delay time will change proportional to it
. "

Thank you for the explanation. Now I see it clearly!

This "loop of ~ notes" style is easier to set the parameter especially for those micro-timing things. But it can be slightly un-intuitive?
(As another way,)"Setting parameters on every notes" is tedious, but more intuitive (and can be useful sometime).

Which is better to achieve the feature?

Personally i don't find it un-intuitive.
Just one group of four 16th note would already be much more interesting than a simple regular swing.
One could already have a kind of "batucada" feel.
Batucada + FM or Ring Mod. style percussion = killer ! :D

Some sequencers have "micro-timing for every note" and it's not bad. :)

Putting dedicated controllers (another grid on right side of the module?) for this like "Modular Sequencer device" would be better?
If I do so, I think it will be one group of eight 32th notes since the maximum division number for a beat is 8 (= eight 32th notes). In this case, if a beat has division number of 4 (= four 16th), only the first four values are used and last four are ignored. Then another beat has division number of 6, the first six values are used and last two are ignored.

Do you think "before the grid" is necessary for this? So, "before the grid" is possible (put aside the first note of first loop of the sequence) but it can be slightly harder than "after the grid" because of the implementation of Vari-step.

After the grid would already be so great !

Yes, if you can do micro timing for every note it would be awesome !

How about a third view on top of the normal one and the probability one ?
If so, the interface would not be more crowded...

I know that Vari-Step is already so complex, i really have no idea how hard all this could be to implement.
I am sure it is not easy at all, so apologies for all the requests.
