BPM Follower

Post by robgray »

It seems if I input a short gate instead of a trigger the BPM Follower says "999" in the top right, even if the outputs below it seem to be scaling properly. Am I doing something wrong here, do I just have to make sure everything feeding it is putting out as brief triggers as possible?

Since triggers are a single sample in length, and the device calculates bpm based on the time between two high values, having two high values in a row (or more) b/c of a sustained gate (even if very short) results in a super fast BPM. The device protects itself, capping the rate at 999, but it intentionally doesn't protect from gate signals (it could wait for a low value before accepting another high value) so that you can use it as a trick to get an extremely fast glitch-like LFO to sort of accent a phrase.
