VCV Rack uses OpenGL which is abandonware with terrible GPU performance.

Does anyone know how to find out the full name of the CPU Apple used in a particular MacBook?

I bang on about this all the time and no doubt people are bored to death by it but it's important information given that many computers come with a wide range of CPU options and there are dozens of different CPUs with the same family name.
BTW, I found your comments about CPU's and performance and programming quite interesting over at viewtopic.php?t=2290

Until module developers get their own subforum here, I guess discussing these things here for regular VM users to enjoy, is the best we can do!

Yes, I am excited about the module developer. I need to create a reason to need to buy the developers license. I spent a lot of time combing the module and bundles list this week to make sure I have every possible free module. It takes a while to do that.

Hint: CA we need a function in the store that says "Give me everything free".

I have 438 modules in my VM now. Including LSSP XL! :)

I just noticed that Intel utility MacCPUID has a save function. Here is the full CPU info from my 2018 Macbook.

You can sort by price, lowest to highest.

Are you saying you want non-module developers to be excluded from discussions by module developers?

TheGarnet wrote: Mon Aug 22, 2022 2:35 pm I have spent several hundred dollars on Cherry Audio VM plugins this week before realizing just how easy it is to exceed what VM can handle . . . .

I am really worried I just invested a lot of money for . . . various . . . modules, to get software that quickly overloads my $4000 laptop.
Did you demo VM and the modules before investing your money?

No, Colinp mentioned not wanting to bother non-low level code people with tech talk about low level CPU capabilities and how programmers need to be concerned about performance.

I wasn't so worried. I'm just happy to have a forum to connect with other deeply technical people.

Hi huggermugger!

Yes I noticed the sort by price. But the system, as your screenshot shows, sorts a lot of bundled modules into the middle of the actually free modules. It can take a while to page through all the combined modules to find everything free.

BTW, I meant to say, the website needs an option to say "Show me all non-bundled modules that are currently free, and add them to my library."
Steve W wrote: Tue Aug 23, 2022 1:08 am Did you demo VM and the modules before investing your money?
Yeah Steve, I did. I was already on about day 3 of my trial before I started spending money. But right out of the gate I had spent money on the Miniverse bundle for a project I am doing, even before buying VM core.

I saw enough to be very impressed with VM over VCVRack, that I started loading up on modules. Figured I better invest in more VM "legos" before I get back to worrying about other financial necessities.

So after spending more on every module I could scrape up money for, I got startled and spooked by the performance issues, but I did get further after realizing I needed to checkbox the threading option.

I would love to know how much difference one of the new M1 laptops makes on VM's capacity. A $3500 M1 laptop is probably the next necessary upgrade to my music kit. It will take a little while to save up for that.

I finished a VM piece today that made me exclaim "Wow, now this piece is so cool, it is the payoff for the last year of deep diving and really getting into modular."

So I have enough room performance wise at the moment to put VM, and related products I bought from CA, to work earning some money.

Why has no one mentioned the Module Designer sub-forum? That's exactly a forum for developers.
