ableton live questions

please forgive me, i'm totally new to this, and i could really use some help!
I havent seen a whole lot of documentation on ableton specifics.

is there any way i have voltage create generative midi patterns to control ableton native devices like drum rack?
i can't seem to get midi out device routed properly to detect midi input signal in ableton, i'm trying to generate/capture midi clips


i'm more interested in using voltage as a utility to sequence and modulate external instruments and create fx processing.

i hope i'm wording this correctly, it's 5am here and my mind is jelly after trying to figure this out for several hours!
