Is it possible to make Sampler I Poly?

Hello, new to modular.
Is it possible to make Sampler I module play in poly? I have only the modules that come with Voltage Modular Core + Electro Drums.
Tried a few modules I thought might work but I only succeeded in creating chaos.
Thanks for any help.

It won't play in poly mode by itself.
However, you can use the
Poly CV Converter module to allocate polyphonic MIDI input to four Sampler 1 modules, all loaded with the same sample.
If you want more than four voices, use the Over Flow MIDI output jack and plug it into another Poly CV Converter (and four more Sampler 1s, of course).
You can continue to 'overflow' in this way as much as you want (I don't
think it is restricted to the Number of Voices setting in the POLY SOURCES panel). However, note that the voice allocation algorithm is a little naïve in its operation. Once you lift all your fingers from the MIDI keyboard, it will always restart the new voice allocation with the first Poly CV Converter (and the first four Sampler 1s). Because of this, 'voice stealing' can become more obvious than it would be on a dedicated poly sampler. The 'obviousness' of this depends on trigger mode, nature of the sample, etc.

I think this is the basic kind of thing Grant was talking about.
Select GATE mode and turn LOOP ENABLE off on each of the Sampler I modules.
It is pretty crude though.

100%, Colin.
I don't have access to VM at the moment, so thanks a lot for putting together that concrete visual demonstration.

A picture being worth a thousand words and all that.
A decent sampler is something missing in VM I think. Is there a third-party one lurking somewhere? One can of course use Plugin Host to borrow a VST sampler but that's not ideal. I end up using the Granular Synth as a sampler a lot of the time but it wasn't really designed for that. So much so that I keep thinking about a version 2 that can do a better job on sampling as well as the granular stuff.

Awesome. Thanks for both taking the time to explain and create a demo, and more.
Not a lot came up when I searched around for samplers before posting, seemed the general consensus was to host a VST. It's a shame there's not something more solid, unless there's a third party one tucked away in a corner of the internet somewhere.
This works well enough for my mess around though, thanks again.

Here are a couple of patches I made which give you six-voice polyphony on Sampler I.

Excellent demos and great sounds, too. Thanks for undertaking the task and for sharing the patches.

This is awesome, thankyou!
Having some presets to both use and reference from when I'm learning how it all interconnects helps a ton.
They sound great. I like the falling effect at 1:53, sounds like something bouncy falling down steps made from piano keys, very satisfying to my ears. Looking forward to playing around and tinkering with them later.
Thanks again for taking the time to go into detail and create presets.
