Dwarfcraft Great Destroyer

Hey guys/gals!

Does anyone know if there are any 3rd party modules that behave like The Great Destroyer by Dwarfcraft? They went out of business a few years ago and I cant find a physical one available, so I thought I'd see if there is something like it in VM...

TIA, and Happy Holidays! :D

It would help if you'd give some idea of what that software did, as I'd imagine few people here have heard of it before.

It's a very characterful distortion pedal.

One might be able to knock up something similar using VM modules but distortion is a quite a wide field so dialing in the specifics would be difficult as there are so many variables and different approaches and this thing is very freaky so not something one could emulate without actually having one to play with in a lab situation.

I suspect its magic trick is the use of an unstable compressor with a weird envelope follower that can self oscillate.

I looked it up because I also felt I wanted more information. So, I saw some videos. Looks like a fuzz/distortion stomp box.
I suggest you get in touch with Waverley Instruments. In addition to the CA/VM store, they have a presence on Facebook. They have VM Modules that might appeal to you. I know they have one that creates a Frank Zappa-like sound. I am not a guitarist, but from the VM modules I have looked at, it seems like WI has DSP experience that suggests they would know more about the Dwarfcraft Great Destroyer or other related FX.

Good call Steve. Rob at WI has kit with level controls that go up to 11 so hopefully he will join in this discussion.

Thx for the replies! Sorry for not being more descriptive. Here is the module I was talking about:

There was a pedal, too, but the unit I was referring to specifically was the euro rack module.

I watched the video for just under 2 min. and couldn't take it anymore. Personal preference, I tend to like videos with actual content. From what little I heard of the unit itself (like when he was mouthing along to a track), my guess is that there are a number of VM modules that can do things to distort the audio in various ways, but maybe not exactly like that eurorack module.

Is there a specific time in the video that succinctly illustrates the sounds the module can make with the over-the-top narrative?

For the stomp boxes, there were videos that illustrated the range of sound in under a minute. Does anyone do a video like that for this module?

Goodness gracious!!!! 85 likes in 9 years with 5,901 views since June 23, 2014? :o Well, you did apologize for not specifying that you were referring to this module. I can accept the apology, but only for myself. :P

Seriously, though, I looked for schematics and found this https://modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=157466 but I haven't looked at it.

I did spot check some parts of the video (20-40 seconds here and there). You might want to log into the Voltage Modular Discord Server and start a discussion there. It doesn't get a lot of traffic, but you might spark an interest.

Also, if you are interested in designing your own experimental modules, you might want to pick up the Voltage Modular Designer. Its free to design modules for yourself (Personal License) and the Commercial License is currently on a half price sale (at least it was the last time I looked).

Just found this: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/cd405 ... e.com%252F.

CD4049UB and CD4050B CMOS Hex Inverting Buffer and Converter.

And these:

Maybe there's a module developer who might want to make something like the DGD Eurorack module for VM if it doesn't exist already.

Could starving a CMOS chip attempting to do analog stuff account for the sounds made by what you are describing? Its all Geek to me, but looking up the schematic and the CMOS chip at the core brought back fond memories of starting to dabble with chips and simple circuits?
